about

A minimalist epic of hypnotic dreams and exhilerating nightmares; a manifestation of the supernatural. Ezra is, above all else, an enigma. Choppy groove is intercepted by lush chords; expressive layers of cello countered by virtuosic drums and relentlessly cyclic keys. Originally composed by keyboardist Joshua Rivory, 'Ezra' has evolved from an exploration of repetition to a groove-heavy and lush extension on TBOP's original sound.

The single is released alongside the second instalment of Angus Kirby's TBOP themed music videos. Early on, the concept of Helen - who recently moved to the Netherlands - passing on from this world became an integral aspect of the film. Kirby used this as "an opportunity to push the imagery further and do something really wild." It became an abstract depiction of nightmares and grief, all caused by the sudden departure of a loved one. It is a visual juxtaposition of light and dark; exploring a sombre reading behind the track's otherwise happy exterior.

In the words of the director himself,

"Buckle up, naughty children." (Angus Kirby - Film Director, AUS)

Ezra will be premiered on Hhhhappy mag on November 21 and officially released on Supersonic records November 26. It is the debut single of TBOP's imminent second EP "Vol.2" due for release mid-2019.
